Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Friday, said Chief Bisi Akande, popularly known as ‘Baba Omo kekeke’, is a role model to many people for his courage and dedication to the public interest.

He also commended Chief Akande for his commitment to public service, especially during his tenure as the first Governor of Osun State in the current Fourth Republic, adding that he remains a beacon of hope for younger generations in a country where many believe that politics is a means for personal acquisition.

The governor further praised Chief Akande for the significant role he played in the formation of the ruling All Progressives Congress as the first interim National Chairman of the party. He also commended him for the elderly role he has been playing to sustain APC in Osun State, the South-West and Nigeria at large.

In the same vein, Benue State governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has described the elder statesman and former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, as a moral compass, who has remained a reference point for integrity, honesty, and steadfast belief in values that strengthen nationhood.

The governor paid this tribute to the elder statesman in a message to celebrate his 87th birthday.

Alia said: “I excitedly join family, friends, associates, and the progressive family across Nigeria to celebrate elder statesman, Chief Bisi Akande; former Governor of Osun State, and the pioneer national chairman of the All Progressives Congress on the occasion of his 87th birthday.

“Inspired by the political philosophy and ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Baba Akande’s journey from the private sector into public service was driven by a deep sense of duty and patriotism.

“He consistently demonstrated competence, integrity, and courage of conviction wherever he served.

“As the Interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Akande played a historic role in laying the foundation of a political platform that changed Nigeria’s democratic trajectory in 2015.

“His foresight, steadiness, and principled leadership helped unite diverse political interests under a shared progressive vision.

“Baba Akande remains a moral compass, mentor, and reference point for integrity, honesty, and steadfast belief in values that strengthen nationhood.

“At 87, Baba continues to inspire generations with his clarity of thought, moral strength, and commitment to democracy, social justice, and good governance.”
