Nigerian television drama series, Sands of Time, has won seven awards in one week, earning four honours at the 2026 Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA) and three international recognitions in Canada.
At NEMCEA, Sands of Time: We Happy People won Best Overall Drama Series, while its producer, Stellamaris Duru, was named NTA Best Producer.
The series also earned acting honours, with Hydra Aneme winning Best Actor and veteran actress Chinyere Wilfred named Best Actress.
The awards run continued internationally, with the series winning Best Television Series (Africa) at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF), Best Television/Web Series at the Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival (BINFF), and Best Television Series (Africa) at the International Comedy and Art Film Festival (TICAFF).
Reacting to the feat, Duru said the recognition affirmed the team’s commitment to creating relatable stories for audiences.
“For us, Sands of Time is not just about making a television series; it is about telling stories that people can see themselves in and enjoy with their families,” she said.
Duru also highlighted the series’ growing broadcast reach, noting that it airs on several television stations across Nigeria, including RSTV Port Harcourt, TVC, Wazobia Max Lagos, ITV Benin, OGTV, ITV Abuja, NTA2 Channel 5, PRTV Jos, WAPTV and EBS TV. Episodes are also available on Stellamarisdurutv on YouTube.
She said the series’ international recognition demonstrates the potential of Nigerian television productions to connect with audiences beyond the country.
“Winning these awards is encouraging, but for me, the biggest achievement is knowing that the story is travelling,” Duru said.
