Samba Njong was conferred with the prestigious Excellence in Tech Inclusion Distinction Award at this year’s National Technology Innovation Honors (NTIH).
The event brought together a cross-section of luminaries from the public and private sectors, celebrating individuals whose efforts have expanded access and equity in Africa’s fast-growing digital ecosystem.
The award was presented by Dr. Musa Lawal, Director General of the National Technology Innovation Center, in a dignified ceremony attended by tech executives, innovation policy leaders, social impact investors, and global development partners. During his remarks, Dr. Lawal described Njong’s work as “visionary, inclusive, and deeply human-centered, a compass guiding us toward a more equitable digital society.”
“Samba Njong is not just building technology, he is building access,” the DG affirmed. “His work has consistently centered marginalized voices, extended digital opportunities to underserved communities, and created platforms where everyone, regardless of background, can participate in the innovation economy.”
An advocate for inclusive technology and a pioneer in digital equity frameworks, Samba Njong is renowned for his leadership in developing community tech hubs, digital training programs for women and youth, and multilingual learning platforms that break down access barriers across socio-economic divides. His initiatives have successfully integrated rural populations into national tech agendas and stimulated inclusive policy conversations at both local and international levels.
The ceremony featured moving tributes from a range of Njong’s collaborators from grassroots community leaders to international digital rights organizations. Many commended his role in launching a program that has empowered thousands with digital skills and provided local entrepreneurs with tools to thrive in the digital economy.
Njong’s influence extends far beyond Nigeria. He has spoken on global stages including the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development, advocating for inclusive innovation ecosystems and Africa-led technology frameworks that leave no one behind.
As Nigeria charts a path toward a more digitally inclusive and socially responsive future, Samba Njong’s recognition with the Excellence in Tech Inclusion Distinction Award affirms a central truth: that real innovation is not only measured in scale, but in access, equity, and the lives it touches.
With this honor, Njong stands among an elite group of changemakers redefining the purpose and reach of technology in Africa, not just building systems for people, but building systems with everyone in mind.
