All is set for the inaugural USA exhibition organised by the Tourists Club International (TCI), in partnership with Vanguard Newspapers.  Themed “The Beginning”, the USA Exhibition is named after the Grand Patron of Tourist Club, Uncle Sam Amuka, publisher of Vanguard Newspapers.

The exhibition will open on December 16 and runs till December 20 at Alexis Galleries, 282, Akin Olugbade Street, off Idowu Martins, Victoria Island, Lagos. Dr. Osa Mbonu-Amadi, Curator and President, Tourists Club International, said at the press preview announcing the exhibition at Vanguard Newspaper corporate office at Kirikiri, Lagos,” Our celebration of 2025 Christmas begins here!”

Renowned in the media circle, Uncle Sam Amuka doubles as a passionate promoter of the arts and an art collector. Lest we forget, he pioneered the inclusion of cartoons and cartoonists in Nigerian newspapers, leaving a lasting legacy in both media and the arts.

Throwing behind their weight for the exhibition are a diverse group of Nigerian and U.S.-based artists. Visitors will view outstanding works by Greg Onyeka, Fidelis Abiamuwe, Kenny Adamson, to mention a few.

Dr. Mbonu-Amadi said: “This event marks the beginning of an annual art exhibition series known as the USA Exhibition — standing for Uncle Sam Art Exhibition.”

Dr. Mbonu-Amadi explained further in his artistic statement: “While the exhibition dazzles with breathtaking colours and masterful techniques, its essence transcends mere aesthetics. It narrates a journey — from imperfection to ever-elevating creative standards. No exhibit captures this evolution better than the juxtaposition of Vanguard Newspaper’s first-ever published edition alongside a copy from the very day of this opening.

“This powerful contrast sends a poignant message: waiting for perfection can cost you the moment. The space between Vanguard’s first print and today’s edition is a testament to unwavering perseverance, relentless striving for excellence, and celebrated achievements.”

The philosophy guiding the USA Exhibition, he said, was anchored in the timeless truth that art preserves memory, culture, identity, and heritage across generations. Also to be exhibited are evocative photographs, and memorable newspaper publications. Significantly, works from Uncle Sam’s collection will also be showcased.

Visitors will encounter works by some artists who worked with Uncle Sam in the media, including the legendary Albert Ohams of The Sun Publications. The roll call of guest artists include some artists who have captured the attention of Vanguard Arts pages, “representing the living pulse of creativity inspired by an enduring legacy.”
