Sallah: Izunaso fetes Muslim community in Imo, preaches peace

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

The Muslim community in Imo State had a splendid time on Tuesday as the lawmaker representing Imo West at the National Assembly, Osita Izunaso, hosted them to a sumptuous meal to celebrate the Sallah festival at his residence in Owerri.

Izunaso, represented at the occasion by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Jude Oduoma, harped on peace and unity as a vital tool for economic growth in the country. He urged the faithful to always accommodate other religions and tribes in the country and to pray for the continued existence of peace.

“What we’re doing today is not new; as a detribalised Nigerian, he does this with the Christian faithful as well to show that we are one. Let us continue to be in unity and pray for the nation,” Izunaso said.

The Chief Imam of Imo State, who is also the Traditional Ruler of Umuofor Kingdom, Eze AbdulFatah Emetumah, highlighted the importance of the various tribes in Nigeria living in harmony.

He seized the opportunity to appeal to Northerners against reprisal attacks on Southerners living in their communities, stressing that the Federal Government is already looking into the circumstances that caused the incident.
