The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Hon. Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has commended the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) for their dedication to improving the health and well-being of Nigerians.
The Minister gave the commendation Friday at the 14th Biennial Delegates Conference of the MDCAN held in Enugu with the theme, “Physician, heal thyself,”
Represented by Prof. John Emaimo, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, the Minister highlighted the importance of doctors taking care of themselves in order to better care for their patients.
Salako touched on the global issue of mental health challenges faced by doctors, specifically mentioning the Otanisi psychosis and Japa syndrome that affects many medical professionals in Nigeria.
While acknowledging the sacrifices and challenges faced by doctors in their profession, the minister emphasized the importance of self-care and seeking help when needed. He urged all participants to engage in thoughtful discussions on how to address these issues and improve the healthcare system in Nigeria.
