‘Safety for every girl’ partners MTN on essay competition

In collaboration with MTN, “Safety For Every Girl” (SFEG), a non-profit committed to empowering girls and women have unveiled the groundbreaking 2024 National Essay Competition. The competition, held in celebration of International Women’s Day, is now open for entries at www.safetyforeverygirl.com.

Open to girls and women throughout Nigeria, the essay contest marks the commencement of SFEG’s period summit, poised to inspire innovative solutions addressing the significant challenge of period poverty in Nigeria and across Africa.

Participants can vie for top honors in either the teen (ages 13 – 19) or adult (ages 20 to 35) categories. Teens have the chance to secure the 1st prize – N400, 000, 2nd prize – N250, 000, and 3rd prize – N150, 000, while adult category winners stand to win 1st prize – N750, 000, 2nd prize – N400, 000, and 3rd prize – N200, 000.

Entrants are to craft essays on “Innovative solutions to combat period poverty in Nigeria” and submit their entries on the official website www.safetyforeverygirl.com.

Chioma Nwigwe, founder of Safety For Every Girl Foundation, states, “Empowering change starts with a single voice, and the 2024 Safety for every Girl National Essay Competition aims to amplify the chorus of innovative solutions to combat period poverty in Nigeria.”

Nwigwe added:”True progress comes from inclusivity and equity. Through this nationwide competition, we strive to commemorate International Women’s Day by fostering a dynamic dialogue that embraces diverse perspectives. Winners will be celebrated at the SFEG period summit in March, serving as a rallying point for lasting change.”

The nationwide essay competition seeks to raise public awareness about period poverty and advocate for menstrual equity. Nwigwe shares, “The ultimate goal is to pave the way for a future where every girl, regardless of her socioeconomic status, can manage her monthly periods safely and with dignity, ensuring her access to the educational and economic opportunities she deserves.”

Applications for the competition, sponsored by MTN, Tenece, and Platform branding company, are open this week and close on Thursday, 15th February 2024. Winners will be announced and rewarded at the SFEG period summit on the 6th of March in Lagos.”
