Valencia striker Umar Sadiq will return to action under new manager Javier Aguirre after recovering from injury following the international break.
The Nigeria international made a positive start to the campaign under former manager Carlos Corberán, scoring one goal in three matches against Celta Vigo, Deportivo La Coruna and Real Betis.
However, the former Real Sociedad striker suffered a hamstring injury and has missed Valencia’s last four league matches against Barcelona, Sevilla, Alaves and Real Sociedad.
Despite Sadiq’s decent start to the campaign, Valencia have endured a poor run of form, winning one, drawing one and losing five of their opening seven matches.
The poor results increased pressure on Corberán before he was eventually relieved of his duties and missed Valencia’s final match before the international break against Real Sociedad.
However, the Spanish club confirmed in a statement on its official website on Wednesday that Javier Aguirre has been appointed as the new head coach.
Aguirre is expected to be presented to the Valencia fans on Monday, September 28, before commencing work with the team.
The Mexican manager will be hoping to have the Nigerian attacker available after the international break as he looks to turn Valencia’s fortunes around.
