To commemorate the 120th anniversary of Rotary International, District 9112 has unveiled a symbolic Rotary wheel monument at the Toll Gate U-turn along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The event, held on Sunday, marked the conclusion of a week-long celebration aimed at honoring the organization’s legacy and reinforcing its commitment to humanitarian service.
As part of the activities, the District organized a medical outreach at the community health center, providing free healthcare services to residents. Additionally, an ambulance was donated to District 9112 by the chairman of the LCDA to enhance emergency medical response. Rotarians also visited an old people’s home, demonstrating their continued support for vulnerable groups.
Pioneer District Governor Olufemi Adenekan, speaking at the ceremony, highlighted Rotary’s global impact. “From just four entrepreneurs in 1905, Rotary has grown into a global force with 1.4 million members, over 33,000 clubs, and more than 520 districts,” he said.
Past President of Eko Atlantic and Chairman of the 120th Anniversary Committee, G.O.C. Barda, emphasised Rotary’s contributions to peace and development. “Our celebration included a global webinar discussing Rotary’s role in promoting world peace, reflecting our commitment beyond local service,” he noted.
The Organizing Chair of the anniversary, Longe Olarewaju, described the monument as a lasting symbol of Rotary’s mission. “This installation will stand as a reminder of our impact and commitment to service for generations to come,” he said, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the event.
