Rotary district 9142 new governor vows to tackle diseases in schools, communities

The newly installed Governor of Rotary district 9142, Kelechi Anyanwu has vowed to prioritize initiatives aimed at tackling diseases in schools and communities, underscoring Rotary’s commitment to improving public health.

Anyanwu who disclosed this in his speech during his installation as the 9th district governor,9142 in Owerri the Imo State capital at the weekend regretted that so many people have been afflicted with diseases that ordinarily could have been prevented with better outreach.

He said “I thank you all for your support , as we embrace the theme of this Rotary program “Beacon of hope” in a world filled with uncertainty Rotary will shine even brighter offering all glimpse of hope.

“Our service this year will focus strongly on Rotary set areas of focus which remains the pillar but first this leads into dialogue and youth leadership,out reaches that will prevent diseases and strengthen our communities ,sanitation projects in our State especially in our secondary schools .

Besides tackling of diseases Anyanwu also pledged. “We would also support mother and children to ensure safe delivery ,initiatives that will improve digital assets ,we would also work on vocational training to boost the economy across the seven States and beyond.

“We shall also protect our environments but we can’t do it alone that’s why we’re here. We would empower our Rotaractors ,we hope all of you seated here will be our beacon of hope and shining light so that we can impact in our communities .

Also speaking, Dr. Nneka Ewenike ,chairman of the ocassion noted that Rotary is trying very hard to collaborate with government and to ensure the realisation of its set out objectives.

However, she has advised Nigerian leaders to shun corruption and stealing of public funds so that available funds would be enough power to reach out to suffering masses.

She said “Rotary believes so much in integrity ,if you’re a real Rotarian you won’t take something that belongs to another person you wouldn’t want the person to suffer ,we condemn corruption one hundred percent ,this life is short , no matter how you loot money and store one day you will die but the legacy you leave behind is what matters ,let’s stop storing these money, let’s bring it out to help others so that Nigeria will be a better place”. Ewenike said.

Executive Director, Operations and Information, Fidelity bank PLC, Stanley Amuchie in his address earlier at the ceremony described the hosting of the event in Owerri as “history making” pointing out that it marks the first in twenty five years of having a district governor of Imo State decent .
