Rotary Club of Greenfield donates equipment to Apena health

The Rotary Club of Greenfield, Okota, Isolo area of Lagos State, yesterday, made some donations to Apena Primary Health Centre in Okota and to some nursing mothers. The materials donated included Sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, thermometer, Face Mask, weight scale, forceps, gloves and scissors for the health centre, as well as 70 packs of pampers, 72 packs of wipes, 72 packs of Vaseline jelly and 72 pieces of mosquito treated nets for the mothers and their babies.

Presenting the gift items, the Club’s President, Kayode Oyesile said the exercise was part of this year’s maternal and child health project of Rotary International. He noted that the Club was at the health centre to render its usual yearly support, having adopted the centre and considering the fact that the government alone cannot provide all the health needs of mother and child. “We have come again to support this health centre having adopted it as our own and also to support mothers and new babies.

“As a Club, we want to ensure that every mother and every child is taken care of. We know that the government alone cannot do it, that is why Rotary is supporting the government’s efforts. This is the first project in this rotary year 2026/2027 and the essence is to have impact in our communities and societies.

“I hope what we have brought here today will go a long way in addressing some of the challenges that mothers encounter in ensuring that the babies survive and are kept in good health,” he said Also addressing the Centre, a former president of the Club, Nnanna Chiugo, said part of the mandates of Rotary Club is to enhance and better humanity, stressing that the visit to the health centre to make some donations was in fulfilment of part of that mandate.

He noted that Rotary deems it proper to take care of child and mother because without procreation, there will be no life after this generation is gone. “So, in Rotary, if we can, we want to catch the babies from the womb. Once a child is born, we do so many things. The BCG you give to new born babies is being sponsored by Rotary, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and that has been going on for the past 50 years all over the world.

We are also doing so many other services to enhance humanity and that’s why we are here.

“As the president earlier said, we were here during the ‘Hope Year. We were here during the ‘Magic Year.’ We were also here during the ‘United Year.’ This ‘Impact Year,’ we are here again, making it the fourth time we have been coming to this health centre. This is the ‘Impact Year’ for Rotary and we want to create impacts for the new born babies and their breast-feeding mothers,” he stated He promised that the Club would also visit the Centre to make more donations next year. “We promise to be here again next year. So, what you need to do is to pray for Rotary and encourage your brothers, sisters and friends to join Rotary so that we can create more and bigger impact in the society,” he submitted.

In her response, the Chief Nursing Officer of the health centre, Awodeyi Olubukola thanked members of the club for the gift, saying, “On behalf of the Apena PHC, I thank you for these gifts. We appreciate you and we pray that God will continue to bless and enrich your pockets always.”
