As the new academic session kicks off, the Rotary Club of Amuwo Prestige, penultimate week, distributed school bags to the pupils of Progress Nursery and Primary School, 7th Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.
Speaking before the distribution of the school bags to pupils, Rotarian Maureen Okoli informed the gathering that the project was in line with Rotary’s commitment to basic education and literacy, one of its key areas of focus. She noted that the club’s vision for the Rotary Year was to “Create Lasting Impact,” stressing that true impact is measured not only by what is given but also by the lives that are touched and the hope that is created: “The initiative is not merely about giving out school bags, but also about contributing to the educational journey and future of the children.”
She elaborated further, “Through initiatives such as this, Rotary seeks to encourage children to remain in school, support their learning needs and create opportunities for them to develop into productive members of society.”
Rotarian Okoli advised the teachers, management and staff of the school, led by the head teacher, Adeyeye Pearse Bukola, to give their best towards educating the pupils.
The club president reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to continuing with projects that address genuine community needs and contribute meaningfully to the development of children and society.
“Service Above Self remains the driving force behind the club’s commitment to creating lasting impact in its community.”
The pupils’ excitement throughout the presentation demonstrated the significance of the gesture, with the school management appreciating the Rotary Club of Amuwo Prestige for remembering and supporting the children.
The club president also appreciated the pupils and advised them to always read their books and respect their teachers and be good children.
Earlier, Head Teacher Adeyeye Pearse Bukola, in a media chat, appreciated the club for the various interventions they have carried out for the school. Some of them include: development of library and supply of books, distribution of sanitary products, development of borehole and installation of taps, among other interventions.
Rotarian Maureen Okoli expressed gratitude to members of Rotary Club of Amuwo Prestige, the supporting impact presidents, the assistant governor and everyone who contributed towards the success of the project.
Members of the club, led by the impact president, Rotarian Maureen Okoli, PHF, were joined by three other impact presidents, Rotarian Chichi Mackings-Nezianya of Rotary Club of Festac Central; Rotarian Chris Ezeokwelume of Rotary Club of Amuwo and Rotarian Bayo Xavier of Festival City Pathfinder, who came to support the initiative.
Other Rotarians present were Rotarian Felix Nnamezie; Rotarian Jessica Onyike; Rotarian Franklin Eguaba, president-elect; Rotarian Esther Obaseki; Rotarian Tina Adinnu; Rotarian Mmasinachi Obinna; and Rotarian Njideka Maduabum, among other Rotarians and guests.
