The Rotary Club of Amuwo Prestige, Lagos, recently hosted Rotarian Bukola Bakare, District Governor of Rotary Club of District 9111, alongside members of the district’s team, on an official visit to the Club.
The President of the club, Maureen Okoli, in her address, welcomed Bakare and members of her team, on behalf of the board and members of the Rotary Club of Amuwo Prestige.
“Your visit is a source of encouragement and inspiration to our club. It gives us the opportunity to showcase our activities, receive your guidance and strengthen our commitment to Rotary’s ideal of ‘Service Above Self,’” she said.
The president announced that since the beginning of the current Rotary year, the club had remained dedicated to making a positive difference in their community through impactful service projects and humanitarian initiatives.
She said: “Today, we are delighted to present our micro credit loan scheme, through which six indigent members of our community have received financial support to strengthen their small businesses and improve their means of livelihood.
“We believe that empowering people economically is one of the most sustainable ways to create hope and lasting change.”
Okoli was of the opinion that the micro credit loan scheme initiative reflects the commitment of the club in supporting vulnerable members of the community through worthy and sustainable interventions.
She further announced that three members would be inducted by the District Governor.
She appreciated the District Governor for her visionary leadership, guidance and unwavering commitment to the growth of Rotary.
She also appreciated the guests, friends of Rotary and every Rotarian that honoured the invitation.
In attendance at the event were Okoli, Jessica Onyike, immediate past President of the club; Betty Elegba, Charter President, Allan Emezue, Umoh Usoro, Njideka Maduabum (Treasurer), Tina Adinnu (Empowerment Executive) and Cynthia Edeh Ohuegbe (Secretary), as well as other Rotarian and guests, among others.
In her response, the District Governor appreciated the past presidents and the incumbent ones, even as she acknowledged the developments in the club over the years within its short period of existence. She also announced that she was delighted, along with her team, at the visit to the club and encouraged it to increase membership, which stood at 20 members, in addition to three new members inducted at the event.
Speaking further, she advised the club to key into some of the projects of the district, which include the Health Project and the Ability Without Limits Project for physically challenged persons, among others.
Okoli, in response to the issue of new projects, promised the District Governor that their club would key into the Ability Without Limits Project.
Meanwhile, the president of the Club honoured two members, Modupeola Aigiomawu and Jessica Ani.
Aigiomawu was presented with a plaque for her exceptional contributions towards building a good public image for the club in the Rotary Year 2025/2026, while Ani received a plaque in recognition of her exceptional contributions towards the membership growth and success of the club in the Rotary Year 2025/2026.
The recipients of the micro credit loan scheme include Mrs. Popoola Toyin, hairdresser; Mr. Ikechukwu Mbagwu, cobbler; Nwokeke Ijeoma Esther, bean-cake seller; Nnachi Okoro, petty trader; Anthonia Ogochukwu Obi, petty trader and Oluchukwu Chris Humphrey, soap maker.
