The Rotary Club of Amuwo has taken a step towards poverty alleviation by disbursing N2.4 million in loans to nine beneficiaries. This initiative is part of their ongoing micro-lending project, which has been operational for 18 years.
Project Director, Nwanne Udeh, said that the program aims to uplift women in Amuwo in Lagos and its environs through financial empowerment, education, and skill development. Since its inception in 2005, over 217 women organised into credit groups have benefited from the project.
A beneficiary, Grace Oguntoyinbo, shared her success story, highlighting how the loan has boosted her business and helped her navigate economic challenges. She said consistent loan repayment has enabled her to expand her operations.
The event was attended by the new District Governor, Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, who commended the Rotary Club of Amuwo for their impactful work, saying that empowering women leads to the overall betterment of families and communities, contributing to peace and conflict resolution.
The Micro-lending Project is a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Amuwo, the Rotary Club of Waunakee and Madison West Towne Middleton (USA), Rotary Districts 9110 (Nigeria) and 6250 (USA), and the Rotary Foundation.
