In order to fulfil one of its cardinal objectives, Rotary Club of Satellite Town has partnered Rotary Foundation to donate medical equipment and neonatal worth over N1000,000 to a Primary Health Centre in Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Satellite Town, Lagos.

The medical equipment/neonatal supplies donated to the health centre was to improve the quality and health care services in the locality.

Donations made included, equipping of a kitchenette for nursing mothers, weighing scale for baby and adult, nebulizer, gas cooker, cabinet, refrigerator among others.

Speaking at the handover of the equipment and supplies, the President of the club, Adaobi Onyeka, said part of their priority as a humanitarian club was disease prevention and healthy living, pointing out that the club has successfully carried out this in different parts of the community.

Onyeka said the donation was to meet some of the needs of the health centre, as a primary health delivery point and the most accessible to residents in the area; it needed such support to aid services to patients.

“We believe the government cannot do everything; they need humanitarian deeds like this so the society can be progressive. That is why we are here to donate this equipment that will be of help to the patients and those who will be coming to seek medical help,” she said.

Also, Service Chairperson, Jake Anele, called on the government to invest more on healthcare delivery, especially in infrastructures.

Anele said: “Most hospitals needed to be equipped with modern facilities to improve our healthcare services.”

Anele acknowledged and commended the state government’s efforts in the health sector but appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support the government.

Stressing that the government alone cannot get the job done, he said that is why Rotary will always come in to support to better the lives of the citizens.

Anele called on other voluntary organisations to emulate the charity work of Rotary, saying there could be meaningful development in society only when individuals and groups assisted the underprivileged.

Oriade LCDA Health Supervisor, Oluwaseun Ogundero, said Lagos State has a health insurance scheme that covers families that are registered.

“There is an identification number once you present it at health facilities assigned by Lagos State government, you can have access to free healthcare services,” he said.

Ogundero commended members of the Rotary Club for the donation, and called on other voluntary organisations to emulate them, by partnering government in development of the society.

“To be honest, I never envisaged this much from them; they have spent such an amount to procure these items and we truly appreciate them for this,” he said.

He, however, urged the health centre to put the items and equipment to judicious use.
