KEDCO optimistic of improved power in Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, blames shortage on low allocation from TCN

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has blamed the prevailing power shortage in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina States on a sharp drop in power allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

A public notice announcement signed by its management on Tuesday said that the reason behind the power shortage was the temporary reduction in their allocation from 300+ MW to an average of 167+ MW as a result of limitations in their transmission lines.

“Today, the allocation went as low as 150+ MW, which is grossly inadequate to supply all our customers, hence our resort to massive load shedding and rationing across our feeders,” the announcement stated.

KEDCO, however, assured their customers and the public that they were pushing the TCN for more allocation with a view to improving and sustaining power supply in their mandate areas.

The company also stressed that they had been informed by TCN that work was ongoing on the affected lines with a view to fixing and restoring power to the affected lines.

Daily Sun reports that residents and businesses in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina States have been negatively affected by a recent massive drop in power supply.
