Rotary Club of Lagos Festac Cosmopolitan, yesterday, donated two sets of bands to Ideal Nursery and Primary School and New Town Nursery and Primary School, both located along 3rd Avenue, Festac Town in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

As part of its ‘WASH Project 2026/27’ the Club also donated several sanitary items to the two schools, ranging from waste bins to brooms, buckets, mop sticks, hand brush, hand towels, toilet brush, hand gloves, air freshener sprays and toilet cleaners, among others.

Presenting the items to the two schools, the President of the Club, Nnaemeka Mekah, said the Club decided to provide the bands because it discovered that the schools did not have bands and wondered how they were organising their morning assembly activities without bands.

On the sanitary items, he noted that the Club wants the schools to always maintain a clean environment and for every child in the school to imbibe the culture of cleanliness

He stressed that the Club had practically become part of the two schools because it had been assisting in the past. “We have equipped your library and brought books in the past years but the last time we came here, your teacher said you didn’t have a band. We wondered how you coped without a band and that’s why we have decided to provide you with sets of bands, one for each school.

“We also know that you need to keep your environment very clean. That’s why we have brought broos and other cleaning materials for the bathrooms and toilets to ensure that the whole environment is clean. We want every child in the two schools to imbibe the habit of cleanliness,” he said.

Responding, the Head Teacher of New Town Nursery and Primary School, Mrs Salami Modupe Debora thanked the Club members for the gesture. “I am very happy because when I came here there was no band unlike where I was coming from. I suggested it to the Rotary Club when the team visited us recently and I am happy they listened to my suggestion. This band will make our morning assembly lively. “With this, Rotary has put smiles on the faces of these children and almighty God will continue to bless them in whatever they do and wherever they go,” she stated.

Also, the Head Teacher, Ideal Nursery and Primary School, Agbelemo Joshua Babatunde, appreciated the Club for the gesture and other assistance in the past.

He said: “The club is wonderful. They have been supporting us. I am so happy. This band will arouse the interest of pupils in extra-curricular activities. May God bless the Rotary Club of Lagos Festac Cosmopolitan abundantly.”

A primary five, Onwuebusi Kosisochukwu, thanked the Club on behalf of the children of Ideal Nursery and Primary School. “I thank the Club members and may God continue to bless them. We are very happy and grateful for the gifts. We appreciate them,” she said.

Helen Obhahie, who spoke for New Town Primary School also thanked the Club for the bands, the sanitary items and other assistance in the past, and prayed that God would continue to bless and strengthen the members. “God will add more riches and wealth to their families,” she said.

The highpoint of the presentation was the pupils’ demonstration of their skills in beating the band to the admiration of the schools’ management and the Rotarians.
