The Rotary Club of Bonny Island has retracted the incorrect use of the title “Amanyanabo” in its official brochure for the installation ceremony of its seventh president.

The club also tendered an unreserved apology to King Edward Asimini William Dappa-Pepple III, the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, over the error.

The installation ceremony was held on October 10, in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The club, in a public notice and disclaimer jointly signed by Olutosin Durojaye, its seventh president and Christian Okoli, its charter president, said the error was entirely unintentional.

It explained that the title was exclusively reserved for the monarch and withdrew the reference, declaring that it had no validity whatsoever.

“The Rotary Club of Bonny Island and its Seventh President hereby completely withdraw and retract the said reference as published and affirm that it holds no validity whatsoever.

“We wish to state categorically that this error was entirely unintentional and was never intended as a form of disrespect to his majesty, the ancient traditional institution or the good people of the Bonny Kingdom.

“The Rotary Club of Bonny Island takes full responsibility for this oversight.

“We extend our deepest and most sincere apologies to his majesty, the chiefs, the elders and the entire people of Bonny Kingdom for any embarrassment this may have caused.”

The club reaffirmed its respect for the cultural heritage, customs and traditions of the Bonny Kingdom, expressing its commitment to sustaining the cordial relationship between both institutions.

“Our Club deeply values the rich heritage, customs and traditions of the Bonny Kingdom and the peaceful relationship over the years since the inception of Rotary club in Bonny Island.

“We remain firmly committed to maintaining the cordial and mutually respectful relationship that has always existed between our Club and the Kingdom of Grand Bonny.

“We respectfully seek the kind understanding and consideration of the public and once again offer our unreserved apology for this regrettable oversight,” the statement said
