Rotary International Districts 9111 and 9112 will on Wednesday, October 7, hold a joint Public Image Seminar in Lagos, bringing together Rotarians, journalists, media practitioners and communications professionals to examine how the organisation can strengthen its public image and communicate its social impact more effectively.
The seminar, scheduled for 10 a.m., will focus on the theme, “Beyond Visibility: Building a Public Image That Endures and Creates a Lasting Impact.”
The organisers said the programme is intended to provide participants with practical knowledge on building public trust, strengthening organisational visibility and communicating Rotary’s humanitarian activities with greater clarity and credibility.
District 9111 Governor, Rotarian Bukola Bakare, said public image was important to the organisation’s ability to extend its reach and communicate the results of its service activities.
“Public Image is one way that we expand our reach in Rotary; telling our stories as People of Action and showcasing our impact,” Bakare said.
The District 9112 Governor, Rotarian Layi Abidoye, said the seminar would address public image beyond conventional branding elements such as logos and slogans.
“This seminar is not just about logos or slogans. It is about equipping Rotarians with the right tools to tell our story with clarity, credibility, and impact,” Abidoye said.
According to him, a stronger public image could help Rotary communicate its service projects more effectively and build greater public confidence in its work.
The programme will feature Dr Lekan Fadolapo, Chief Executive of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON); Akogun Tokunbo Modupe, Founder and Chief Consultant of TPT International PR Limited; and Rotarian Ademola Akinbola, Managing Director of Brand Stewards Limited.
Chairman of the District 9111 Public Image Committee, Rotarian Olalekan Otun, said the speakers would address aspects of public image and strategic communication under the seminar’s theme.
The District 9112 Public Image Committee Chairman and Past Assistant Governor, Chinedu Ebo, said the event was designed to provide participants with insights from professionals in branding, public relations, advertising and media.
The seminar is also expected to feature goodwill messages from Rotary International President, Rotarian Yinka Babalola; Rotary Foundation Trustee, Rotarian Ijeoma Pearl Okoro; Rotary Public Image Coordinator in Africa and Past Assistant Governor, Rotarian Ibim Semenitari; pioneer District 9111 Governor, Dr Wole Kukoyi; and Immediate Past District 9111 Governor, Prince Henry Akinyele.
Among the media and communications figures expected at the event are Dr Sam Ayetutu, Chairman of the Lagos State Public Relations Council and District 9111 Governor-elect; Mr Gbenga Adefaye, Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism; Rotarian Dr Sola Akinsiku, President of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria; Rotarian Ehi Braimah, District 9112 Governor-nominee and Publisher of Naija Times; Azuh Arinze, Publisher of Yes Magazine and Past Assistant Governor; Rotarian Muyiwa Akintunde, Publisher of Breezy News; and Rotarian Victor Ojelabi, Publisher of FreelaNews Online.
Bakare and Abidoye are expected to serve as chief hosts of the seminar, which will bring together Rotarians, Rotaractors, media professionals and friends of Rotary.
The focus on public image comes as Rotary District 9111 continues to place emphasis on communicating the impact of its community service activities. The district’s current leadership has previously identified public image and effective storytelling as important components of its efforts to strengthen engagement with communities and potential partners.
The October seminar will therefore provide a platform for participants from Rotary and the communications industry to examine the relationship between visibility, credibility and public trust, while considering how organisations can communicate their work beyond simply increasing exposure.
