The Rotary Club of Akowonjo, Lagos, has pledged to do more for the less privileged as its Impact President, Rotarian Oladapo Bankole, presented the club’s achievements in the first 100 days of the 2026/2027 Rotary Year.
The club said it had recorded more than N5.95m in service investments in healthcare, education, skill acquisition, economic empowerment and support for vulnerable members of the community.
Speaking during a media briefing and presentation of the club’s scorecard, Bankole said the achievements were a sign of the club’s commitment to improving lives, adding that more work needed to be done to reach people in need.
“Our achievements are not simply statistics. Each figure represents a person reached, a skill acquired, an opportunity created, a need addressed, or a life that has been touched by Rotary,” he said, adding, “The first 100 days have laid the foundation, but the work continues.”
Bankole called on individuals, corporate organisations and other well-meaning Nigerians to support the club’s projects, saying more resources would enable it to extend its reach and assist more people.
As part of its efforts to improve livelihoods, the club empowered 11 community members with financial grants to support their small businesses. It also invested N2.15m in four skills acquisition programmes that benefited 62 people.
The programmes covered adult literacy, phone repairs, basic Microsoft Excel and hair-cutting skills. The Excel training also provided four refurbished desktop computers for participants.
In healthcare, the club invested N1.6m in the Bola Ahmed Tinubu maternity intervention, alongside more than N600,000 for maternal support items, delivery ward improvements and awareness campaigns on postpartum depression.

More than 350 pupils of African Church Primary School benefited from the club’s education support programme, receiving books, water bottles and school bags.
Bankole said the club was also preparing for a free cataract surgery and eye screening exercise scheduled for October 29 to 31 in Lagos and Ogun states, in partnership with the Indo Eye Care Foundation.
Beyond its humanitarian projects, the club recorded membership growth from 71 to 82 members in the first 100 days, an increase of 15.5 per cent. It also contributed $9,280 to The Rotary Foundation, representing 37.12 per cent of its annual target of $25,000, and donated $300 to the PolioPlus programme.
The club has also established the Rotaract E-Club of Akowonjo and is working towards the establishment of the Rotary E-Club of Akowonjo Central.
Bankole said the club would continue to build on the achievements recorded so far, with greater attention to projects that directly address the needs of the community.
He urged members and prospective partners to support the club’s fundraising efforts, stressing that collaboration would help it reach more vulnerable people and sustain its community development programmes.
The president said the first 100 days were only the beginning, adding that the club remained committed to turning Rotary’s ideals of service into practical benefits for the people.
