Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus to apologise to Cristiano Ronaldo or risk losing his job.

Ferdinand made the call in a post on X while reacting to the reported dispute between Ronaldo and Jesus.

The former England defender said the situation involving the Portugal captain and the coach needed to be handled carefully, given Ronaldo’s importance to the national team.

“The coach has to come out and apologise… otherwise, he’s eventually going to get sacked. He has to say publicly, ‘Listen, I got this situation wrong,’” Ferdinand said.

This comes despite Jesus explicitly stating at a press conference following Portugal’s victory over Norway in the Nations League that he did not need to apologise to anyone.

Ronaldo left the Portugal team amid a reported conflict with Jesus over his playing time with the team.
