Rodrygo apologises for Benfica red card

Rodrygo Goes sent off against Benfica

By John Ogunsemore

Real Madrid forward, Rodrygo Goes has apologised to fans after being sent off during Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to Benfica.

The Brazilian was one of two Real Madrid players red carded in the closing minutes of the encounter.

Raul Asencio was sent off in the 92nd minute by referee Davide Massa, minutes before Rodrygo was dismissed for dissent.

Rodrygo, 25, took to X on Thursday to apologise to fans for the red card at the Estadio da Luz.

He said, “Yesterday I let myself get carried away by the moment when claiming for the time wasting. It’s not my way of doing things. I’d never been sent off while playing against Real Madrid and I’m aware of the consequences.

“I apologise to the fans, to the club, to my teammates, and to the coach. We will continue united and fighting for this badge and for this Champions League!”
