In continuation of their philanthropic gesture, the Rochas Foundation and Juremi Foundation, at the weekend, visited the Karonmajigi Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) Camp in Abuja.

Apart from food and drinks, including water, which the two charity bodies provided for the IDPs, they also danced with persons with disabilities.

Various cash donations were dolled out to the IDPs, including two Dayun Super Motorbike for community policing; two wheelchairs, three sewing machines, bags of rice, cartons of noodles and cooking ingredients, among others.

The high point of the event was the presentation of N1,000,000 to one of the IDPs who was burnt and needed skin treatment.

Following the gesture, the IDPs took turns to also donate money for the wellbeing of the young man.

In his remarks, a representative of the Rochas and Juremi Foundations, Amen Rochas Okorocha, said the inspiration to impact the lives of the IDPs was something the Foundations started a while ago.

“Karonmajigi is not a new community to me. We have been here for quite some years, I think over seven years. We have built skills acquisition centres. But today, I chose to celebrate my birthday with my family, the physically-challenged, the members of Karonmajigi in our society and the less privileged,” Okorocha said.

The younger Okorocha further said he met more than what he expected with the presence of someone who was a burnt victim with serious cases.

He added that for the first time since he had been doing outreach, after the Foundations gave N1,000,000, members of Karonmajigi started giving N500, N1000 and N200.

“And that is what Nigeria is all about. I think that is what love is all about. That is the Nigeria I grew up in, that is the love I grew up with and it excited me. I just want to thank God for His mercies. I want to thank God for a great day like this. In all, to God be the glory and I am happy to  be here,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Emir of Persons With Disabilities, Karonmajigi, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Alhaji Suleiman Mohammed Katsina, appreciated the Foundations for the gesture.

“We have to appreciate him for this gesture because it is his habit to always be with the less privileged on his birthday. And they have done a lot to this community.

“For over 20 years, they have been doing a lot. They are the ones that even made the development of this community. You can see the palace, he is among the people that are developing the place,” the Emir of Persons With Disabilities said.

He wished Okorocha long life and prosperity, sound health and blessings wherever he found himself.
