Suspected armed robbers have invaded the Benin City residence of the factional Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State, Kennedy Odion, carting away two Toyota Highlander Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), N500,000 cash, four mobile phones and other valuables.
The robbers reportedly struck at about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday at Odion’s residence off Winners Road, Uhie, Benin City, leaving the politician and his young children traumatised before escaping with the stolen items.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, had visited the residence and ordered a comprehensive investigation and manhunt for the perpetrators.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) had taken over the investigation.
According to her, detectives had processed the crime scene and commenced efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects, as well as recover the stolen vehicles and other property.
Speaking with Daily Sun on the telephone after the incident, Odion described the experience as traumatic, particularly for his young children who witnessed the invasion of their home.
Beyond the loss of the vehicles, cash and other valuables, he said his immediate concern was the psychological impact of the attack on the children.
Odion wondered how long it would take them to overcome the frightening experience and whether they would ever completely erase the memories of the early-morning invasion.
He said the incident had left his family deeply shaken, stressing that the emotional impact of the attack was more disturbing than the material losses.
The police assured that efforts were ongoing to track down the suspects, recover the stolen property and bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
