Police authorities including heads of formations, departments, commanders and divisional heads are holding talks in Maiduguri to develop new strategies for the internal security of the state ahead of next year’s general elections.

Commissioner of Police, Borno Command, Abdul Umar, in a remark on Wednesday at the opening of the meeting at the state headquarters in Maiduguri, said the discussions among the police hierarchy were informed by new security challenges involving

CP Umar said the meeting was also to enable the police officers to interact on measures to ensure smooth security of the public space to guarantee a crime-free and enabling environment for the political campaigns

He assured the police will abide by the provision of the Electoral Act, the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement for Personnel on Election Duty.

“These will remain our watchword,” he promised.
