Rivers varsity abolishes course rep system

…Warns lecturers against extortion, illegal appreciations after exams

The Senate of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) in Iwofe, Rumuluomeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has abolished course leader/representative system in the institution.

 

Also, the university has issued a stern warning to all lecturers to desist from illegal appreciations after examination.

 

The lecturers were further warned to shun extortions, charges for late buying of books, inflating prices of text books and fixing practicals arbitrarily in order to squeeze out money from students.

 

The position of the University Senate was contained in a Special Release dated 28 August, 2024, but made public on Friday, which was signed by the Acting Registrar of the institution, Dr.C.A Ajie and copied to the Acting Vice Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, all Directors of Academic units, Public Relations Officer, Student Union Government (SUG) President.

 

The University Senate regretted that these ugly acts have portrayed the school in bad light, as well as attracting negative publicity.

 

The IAUE Senate warned lecturers to desist from the aforementioned acts or face stiffer disciplinary measures.

 

The University Senate while condemning the acts, stated that the evil is going on in departments and faculties with impunity.

 

The Senate said all books should be sent to the bookshops to be sold at University approved prices, while assuring that the University Senate will set up book review committee soon.

 

The statement further encouraged students to come out boldly to give useful information to the University Management or Chairman, Anti-Sorting Committee, with a designated phone.

 

The Senate assured the students that any report received would be treated as confidential.
