The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly responsible for the killing of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in the Aluu area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the breakthrough followed weeks of intelligence-driven and tactical operations by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), also known as AKU.
According to Kaborlo, the officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, while carrying out a stop-and-search operation within the Aluu Division.
The attack claimed the lives of the two officers. One of the officers initially sustained a severe leg injury, which later required amputation before he eventually died.
The assailants also carted away the officers’ service AK-47 rifles.
She said that following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, immediately visited the division and directed the deployment of the Command’s operational and intelligence assets to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen firearms.
Kaborlo said the operation led to the arrest of Maduabuchi Emeka, alias “Doctor”, 34, from Egbata Community in Omoku Local Government Area; Chinedu Owhor, 42, from Akabuka in Omoku Local Government Area, but resident in Aluu Community; and Kamachi Joe, 28, also from Egbata Community in Omoku Local Government Area.

She stated that exhibits recovered from the suspects included three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle, adding that investigations revealed the suspects were linked to other murder cases currently under investigation.
The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fourth member of the gang, who remains at large.
The Commissioner of Police commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, gallantry and dedication, describing the operation as a demonstration of the Command’s resolve to ensure that those who attack police officers or engage in violent crimes have no hiding place in Rivers State.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at protecting lives and property and bringing criminal elements to justice.
Adepoju also warned criminals to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law, stressing that Rivers State would not serve as a safe haven for criminal elements.
He further appealed to residents to sustain their partnership with the Command by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in combating crime and enhancing public safety across the state.
