Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have apprehended an armed robbery suspect found in a viral video of car theft.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), who confirmed the development to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, described it as another remarkable achievement.
She said it was a swift operation and investigation into the viral video circulating on the social media space, depicting an armed robbery incident at the Choba area of Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Iringe-Koko disclosed that the incident, which occurred at about 1500 hours, involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.
The PPRO explained that through intelligence-led policing and technical support, operatives of the command successfully arrested one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young, a male aged 42 years, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.

She stated that the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.
The spokesperson for the command further added that the suspect is currently in police custody, and an in-depth investigation has been launched to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, recover the stolen vehicle, and retrieve the firearms used in the commission of the crime.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has commended the operatives involved in the operation for their diligence and swift response, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
The Rivers Police boss also expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in sharing credible information that facilitated the arrest.
He warned that the state would not provide a hiding place for criminals, emphasising the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in Rivers.
