A young man identified as Owate Bode has allegedly killed his mother with a cutlass in Eleme town, Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, after she refused to give him N10,000.00 to buy illicit drugs.
The suspect, who is now in Police custody perpetrated the dastardly act on Saturday.
A source close to the family disclosed that the suspect had demanded N10,000 from the mother which he intended to use to purchase illicit drugs, but his mother refused.
The suspect was said to have used machete to cut the mother, who until the incident was a teacher in a government primary school severally for refusing to give him the money.
It was gathered that the suspect was apprehended by the community youths and handed over to the Police, while the corpse has been deposited at a morgue in the area.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko a Superintendent of Police (SP),has confirmed the incident to newsmen.
Iringe-Koko said the suspect had confessed to the crime that he used a hole to hit the mother on the head.
The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon, has ordered for the transferred of the suspect from Eleme Police Division to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
