Ahead of the proposed local government election in Rivers State, the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has told the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) States Assembly Forum (ASAF), Fubara Dagogo, to declare his intention to contest the chairmanship of Bonny Local Government Area under the APC.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) was inaugurated last week by the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, and mandated to conduct a fresh LG poll following the annulment of the earlier election conducted by the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, by the Supreme Court.
The TSG’s appeal follows a series of calls from members of the defunct Contact and Mobilization Committee of President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 Campaign Council, as well as APC stakeholders in Bonny Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by Akeem Olapade, Chuks Nwanodu, Dominic Alancha, and Professor Ali Alao, the Tinubu Support Group described Fubara Dagogo as a key asset to the APC in Rivers State and Bonny LGA, whose wealth of experience must be harnessed to secure victory in the upcoming election.
The group noted that Ambassador Dagogo has remained steadfast and committed to the ideals of the APC since its inception, and that he has contributed significantly to the party’s growth over the years.
The TSG, while expressing appreciation for the continued support and confidence of APC stakeholders in Bonny LGA, Rivers State, and beyond, emphasized that the party leadership must recognize and reward loyal members by giving them opportunities to serve their communities. It warned that the party risks stagnation at the grassroots if it continues the practice of giving its ticket to political outsiders who disappear after elections.
They, therefore, urged all APC stakeholders in Rivers State and Bonny Local government area to rally behind Ambassador Fubara Dagogo to secure the party’s ticket, asserting that he is the only aspirant with the grassroots support and capacity to win the local government for the APC.
“For us at the TSG, we believe in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda even at the grassroots level. For Bonny LGA, at this critical time, Ambassador Fubara Dagogo is an asset that must not be allowed to slip away in this journey toward the council’s rebirth,” the statement read.
“We therefore call on him to heed our appeal and contest the election. Dagogo has made invaluable contributions to the APC, remaining committed from the merger period till date. As a former member of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), he played a prominent role in grassroots mobilization that led to the 2015 electoral victory. He has served in every campaign council from the time of the late President Muhammadu Buhari to the current President, Bola Tinubu.”
The TSG further stated that it is ready to offer full support, including mobilizing its members and resources, to ensure victory for Ambassador Dagogo and the APC in Bonny LGA—if he is given the party’s ticket. It added that now is the time for the APC to lay the groundwork for winning Rivers State in the 2027 elections.
“Fubara Dagogo has remained a strong party loyalist. We call on APC stakeholders in Bonny to join us in this project in the interest of the party and the local council. He has already developed a working blueprint for the development of Bonny LGA—an initiative the people should not allow to die,” the group emphasized.
“Most importantly, we believe the time has come for the APC to reward its loyalists who have driven the party’s growth—from the time it was treated as a pariah party, to this moment when even former opposition members now seek to align with it,” the statement concluded.
