To empower its youth and address the global shortage of skilled aviation professionals, the Rivers State government has launched a scholarship programme at Eastwing Aviation Institute. The initiative is designed to equip Rivers youth with specialized skills in AW139 helicopter engineering.
Dr. Stanley Pepple, who coordinated the selection process, explained that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to sponsor this training aligns with the state’s strategic goals of economic development, skill acquisition, and technological advancement for the youth of Rivers State.
The programme fully sponsors qualified indigenes of Rivers State, with applicants required to hold an AME license and provide proof of their indigeneity. “The process was straightforward, asking applicants who held an AME license to submit documents confirming their status as indigenes of Rivers State,” Pepple said.
10 successful applicants have completed their training at the institute, with the selection process being transparent and inclusive, thanks to media advertisements that called for submissions from interested youths in the state.
Pepple emphasised that Governor Fubara’s initiative is focused on ensuring a steady supply of skilled professionals to meet industry demands, promote economic growth, and position Rivers State as a leader in aviation development.
Mr. Christopher Edeh, the Chief Executive Officer of Eastwing Aviation Institute, expressed his gratitude to the governor for his support, noting that the scholarship programme has already begun benefiting students who started their training a few weeks ago.
Edeh also highlighted the programme’s long-term goals, stating that it will not only help alleviate the global shortage of aviation professionals but also position Rivers State as a key hub for aviation training and expertise. The next batch of training is set to commence soon, ensuring the continued growth of skilled professionals in the sector.
