A long-time political ally of former Minister of Transportation and vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Sokonte Davies, has dumped the ADC and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Davies, a founding member of the ADC, announced his decision to rejoin the APC in a statement titled – ‘Return to the progressive family: my decision to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).’

He said the decision was taken after extensive consultations with his family, political associates, constituents and elders.

According to him, his return to the APC was informed by the need to assess where he could best serve the political interest of his people and move Rivers State forward politically and economically.

Davies said his decision was also driven by the desire to contribute to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the political stabilisation of Rivers State.

“After extensive consultation with my family, political associates, constituents, and elders, and following the cessation of my membership of the African Democratic Congress recently, I hereby announce my decision to return to the All Progressives Congress, a party in which I was privileged to be a foundational member,” he stated.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. It flows from deep reflection, patriotic conviction, and a clear-eyed assessment of where I can best serve our people and contribute to the goal which is to re-elect the President to ensure the stability of the nation.”

Describing his return as a homecoming, Davies recalled his role as a foundational member of the APC, saying he still believes in its ideals of democracy, social justice, true federalism, inclusive growth and respect for the rule of law.

The former governorship aspirant said his sojourn in the ADC was marked by service and commitment, and thanked the national leadership and members of the party for the opportunity to serve.

“I bear no ill will. Politics is a marketplace of ideas; we can disagree without being disagreeable. I wish the party well in its future endeavours,” he said.

He pledged to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the APC at ward, local government, state and national levels and to deploy his experience and networks to support the party’s vision and developmental agenda.

Davies also appreciated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his warm reception, as well as the APC National Vice Chairman, Victor Giadom, party elders and members for facilitating his return.
