The National Security Adviser (NSA) and former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has tasked the anti-graft agency to track proceeds of violent crimes such as kidnapping and terrorism.
This is as Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Olu Olukayode has vowed to crack down on fraudsters especially online scammers in the South East.
The NSA spoke in Enugu while commissioning the EFCC zonal command complex, on Tuesday.
He asked the commission to be in the forefront of sanitizing the country, noting that the present administration will give the agency all the needed support.
Ribadu said that his commissioning of the complex brought nostalgic and reflective feelings on his homecoming to the commission.
“Things are changing, my return to Enugu is nostalgic because the Enugu command is one of those established during my time in EFCC and I’m delighted on the transformation in the commission.
“In the past six months, we’ve been seeing that change is possible in Nigeria and more changes will come in 2024. This administration will not compromise in the fight for welfare of the citizens,” he said.
The EFCC boss in giving danger signal to fraudsters operating in the region, disclosed that the agency is now more equipped to crack on suspects.
Olukayode stated that with the new complex and facilities therein, the command will now crack further on suspected fraudsters in the zone to ensure that they would have no space to operate.
He recalled that some months ago, the Enugu command’s office was gutted by fire, noting that the commissioning of the new complex was a triumph over the disaster.
He said that he has been running the commission in line with President Bola Tinubu’s policy of creating Nigerian environment where businesses can thrive.
