The Director General of Rivers First Movement (RFM) and prominent youth leader, Maobuye Nangi Obu, has resigned his membership of the organisation, citing what he described as a departure from the original vision and objectives of the organisation.
In his resignation letter, he said his decision also followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with his close associates and confidants.
Obu, a pro-democracy advocate who served as the pioneer DG of the socio-political organisation, also noted that internal challenges in the organisation made it difficult to translate its founding vision into sustained political and civic engagement.
While reflecting on his brief stewardship, he said he developed a well-structured organisation with clear programmes, grassroots mobilisation strategies and a coherent political roadmap capable of galvanising citizens across the state’s political, ethno-religious, professional and generational divides.
According to him, conflicting interests became a major albatross of RFM, inhibiting the expansion of its membership base and grassroots structures.
He maintained that his resignation was not an impulsive decision, but a well-thought-out one, adding that it was time he advanced his commitment elsewhere for a better and more progressive Rivers State.
He expressed appreciation to the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders for the shared experiences, insisting that his commitment to the progress, unity and development of Rivers State remains unwavering.
He stressed that he would continue to participate in efforts aimed at promoting good governance, democratic values, youth participation and responsible leadership.
He equally announced his withdrawal from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), wishing the party well in its political and electoral pursuits.
