RFM DG resigns, says group has departed from founding vision, quits ADC

Director General of Rivers First Movement (RFM), Maobuye Nangi Obu, has resigned from the organisation, citing what he described as its departure from the vision and objectives for which it was founded.

Obu, a prominent youth leader and pro-democracy advocate, also announced his withdrawal from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In his resignation letter, the pioneer DG of RFM said the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with close associates and confidants.

He said internal challenges had made it difficult for the socio-political organisation to translate its founding vision into sustained political and civic engagement.

Reflecting on his stewardship, Obu said he had worked to develop a structured organisation with programmes, grassroots mobilisation strategies and a political roadmap capable of galvanising citizens across political, ethno-religious, professional and generational divides in Rivers State.

According to him, however, conflicting interests became a major obstacle to expanding the organisation’s membership base and grassroots structures.

He maintained that his resignation was not impulsive but followed careful consideration, adding that the time had come to pursue his commitment to a better and more progressive Rivers State through other platforms.

Obu expressed appreciation to the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders for their shared experiences, insisting that his commitment to the progress, unity and development of Rivers State remained unwavering.

He said he would continue to support efforts promoting good governance, democratic values, youth participation and responsible leadership.

Obu also announced his withdrawal from the ADC and wished the party well in its political and electoral pursuits.
