Chief Imam of Awujoola Central Mosque, Saabo, Oyo, Sheikh Hamzat Ahmad, has urged the newly appointed Chief Imam of Oyo town, Sheikh Bilaal Akinola, to use his new position to restore the dignity of Islam in Oyo town.

Sheikh Ahmad spoke during the Jummah service held on Friday at Awujoola Central Mosque Saabo, Oyo.

The cleric said the appointment of Akinola as the new Chief Imam of Oyo town was a big achievement for Oyo Muslim community, but he added that the success of the new Chief Imam is also the success of all the imams in Oyo town.

“As the newly appointed Chief Imam of Oyo town would be installed officially today, it is my hope that Oyo will continue to retain her glorious and historic position in Yoruba land.

“I implore the new Chief Imam to be pious and fear the Almighty Allah in discharging his duty as the head of all imams in Oyo.

“If a leader is good, the followers will also be good. If a leader also succeeds, the followers will also succeed.

“Those of us looking up to him as the head of all imams in Oyo town should support him and make sure he succeeds in this new task.

“We are his ambassadors and as the Ulamas of Allah, we should also know that his success is our success,” he said.

While frowning at the recent spike of insecurity across the country, Sheikh Ahmad restated the need for peace and unity in Nigeria, and charged the federal government to step up the fight against banditry.

“Insecurity has affected the image of Nigeria in the global community. And we must salvage the country by ensuring that Nigeria is safe for every citizens”, Ahmad stated.
