The House of Representatives yesterday directed the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim, Idris to ensure the prompt arrest and trial of the killers of the paramount ruler of Bokkos and Chairman Council of Chiefs, Bokkos Local Government, Lazarus Amashin Agai.
The traditional ruler was killed by gunmen alongside his son, daughter-in-law, Police Orderly and a relative on Monday.
While the House is also set to investigate the matter, it urged all security agencies to deploy men to the area to forestall breakdown of law and order. The resolution of the House followed the passage of a motion by Solomon Maren who described the monarch ‘s killing “is one too many that has occurred in series in the area since the event of this administration.
“First, it was the Makai Forof Dah, Ali Magaji, sometime in January 2016, the second was the District Head of Manguna Saf Annong Adake, who was the Secretary to the council of chiefs Bokkos L.G.A. And the worst of it, the one that occurred yesterday ( Monday) the head of the council and paramount ruler of Bokkos people, who was brutally killed by unscrupulous persons.”
The lawmaker said in all the cases mentioned, there had been no security intervention to either stop the killings or bring culprits to book.
“This wanton killing and unwholesome act of terrorism by mischievous people which ought to be tackled even with greater intensity than Boko Haram scourge due to the slow and consistent manner and pattern of operation and elimination of peaceful and law abiding citizens who have been working hard towards achieving lasting peace in plateau state as a whole”.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Caucus in the House of Representatives yesterday declared that residents of the state are now “endangered species” because of what they said was the indifferent attitude of the Federal Government to the killings in the state.
In a briefing at the National Assembly, members of the caucus which included Edward Pwajok , Timothy Golu and Maren urged the Federal Government to act quickly before the matter spirals out of hand.
