Reps direct FG to suspend implementation of Samoa agreement

House of Representatives Nigeria

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to suspend the implementation of the Samoa Agreement signed recently, pending the conclusion of an investigation into the pact.

This followed the adoption of a motion by the Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki, and 88 others, at Tuesday’s plenary, calling attention to some allegedly offensive clauses in the agreement.

The Samoa Agreement, which was signed by the government recently, has been trailed by controversy, with several Nigerians kicking against it.

Madaki, in his lead debate, said the agreement purportedly promotes LGBT rights, which are against extant laws in the country.
