The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions headed by Mike Etaba, has commenced the second leg of the public hearing on the petition submitted to it by Concerned Kindred Families of Obeagu and Amechi Awkunanaw in Enugu State.

The Committee after the first hearing had sent it’s consultant, Malachi Nwaekpe to the affected communities in Enugu for a fact-finding mission and to report back on the second hearing.

Under cross examination by the chairman Etaba, the consultant revealed that on his visit to the Magistrate Court in Enugu, he obtained a CTC of the Court records which state that there was no pending case against members of the communities as they had been discharged and acquitted on the case of kidnapping instituted against them by some alleged agents of Private Estates International West Africa(PEIWA). A company at the centre of the land tussle with the communities.

A further cross examination on his findings, he also revealed that a plot of land in the disputed layout goes for N25 million and that Supol Chidiebere Ijiomah,  the Commander of Octopus squad who was present during the hearing owns a palatial home in the disputed land.

Etaba referred to Supol Ijiomah for concordance and he affirmed, but said he’s paying installmentally.

Chiene Chiene, the chairman of Obeagu Litigation Committee, prayed the House Public Hearing Committee to direct the Police high command to apply appropriate sanctions against the above named officer who has clearly abused his office in pursuit of selfish interest or personal aggrandisements.
