The Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Usman Bello Kumo, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress ( APC) candidate for Akko Federal Constituency of Gombe, for the 2027 polls.
Kumo was returned unopposed by delegates at the APC primary, which was held at Kumo East ward, drawing applause from party stalwarts and loyalists, who participated in the exercise.
The lawmaker, had earlier indicated interest in the APC governorship ticket for Gombe State, withdrew from the contest and endorsed the party’s consensus candidate, Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna.
Kumo, who was a front runner for the APC governorship ticket, had described his decision to withdraw from the contest as as respect for party supremacy and internal democratic processes.
Kumo, who was considered one of the leading aspirants in the APC, said his decision to withdraw from the governorship race followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders aimed at preserving unity within the party ahead of the elections.
The lawmaker, while reacting to his victory in House of Representatives primary, expressed appreciation to party members, delegates and supporters for the renewed mandate. He pledged
to continue delivering effective representation and people-oriented projects to his constituency.
