The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports claiming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been directed to resign over alleged health concerns, describing the claims as completely false.
In a statement issued on Monday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said there was no truth to the reports and accused those behind them of deliberately spreading misinformation.
“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign; this is another fake news,” Akosile said.
He stressed that Sanwo-Olu remains in good health and continues to carry out his responsibilities without interruption.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State,” he added.

Akosile said the state government would normally ignore such speculation, but decided to respond to prevent residents from being misled.
He also disclosed that the governor earlier received Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who formally notified him of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, the meeting was cordial and in line with established political tradition.
Sanwo-Olu, who assumed office in 2019, is expected to complete his second term on May 29, 2027. He has already endorsed Hamzat as his preferred successor.
