The member representing Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency of Osun State in the House of Representatives, Hon Soji Adetunji has declared that the economic hardship facing the country will end if Nigeria can turn to a productive economy.

Hon Adetunji who is an expert in finance stated that the federal government should encourage local production and consumption of local items to end hardship in the country, stressing that over reliance on foreign items is killing the country’s economy.

The federal lawmaker spoke at an empowerment programme organized for some of his constituents spread across Ifelodun/Odo-Otin Boripe federal constituency of Osun State where over #10million was given to some selected members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the constituency.

Hon Adetunji who posited that the welfares of his people was paramount in his mind, disclosed that he had given scholarship to some selected students, especially the indigent ones in his constituency, adding that he recently procured UTME forms for selected students in the constituency.

He hinted that food stuffs and money were also given as palliatives to his constituents to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship in the country.

For Nigerian economy to grow, Adetunji suggested that the federal government should discourage importation of goods into the country, pointing out that the importation of goods kills the country’s economy.

He therefore enjoined the federal government to encourage production of goods in the country, in order to grow Nigeria’s economy, saying that “Nigeria allows certain things which other countries don’t allow. For instance cryptocurrency that thrives in Nigeria is not allowed on some country of the world.”

“We consume foreign things too much in Nigeria instead of our own local things. To this end, the federal government should ban foreign things in Nigeria. This will help our local economy to grow and in return boost our own economy in Nigeria,” he said.

Also, he stressed the need to encourage the use of Naira, being the recognized and authentic currency in Nigeria and stop the use of foreign currencies, especially dollar.

Commenting on the spate of insecurity in the country, Adetunji said the House of Representatives had met with security chiefs on how to ensure lasting solution on insecurity in the country, assuring that the meeting will yield positive results in no distant time.
