The South-South Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Project 2027, Hon. Mere Williams, has said the economic reforms of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration are laying the foundation for a stronger Nigerian economy, despite the challenges associated with the policies.

Hon. Williams, who spoke in an interview, said the Renewed Hope Project 2027 was established as a grassroots mobilisation and civic engagement platform to bridge the gap between government policies and Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He describes the Renewed Hope Project 2027 as a grassroots mobilisation and civic engagement platform established to deepen support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and ensure its success in the 2027 elections. The project was informed by the need to bridge the gap between government policies and the people. Its mandate is to take the message to the grassroots, document government deliverables, and mobilize Nigerians for continuity and consolidation.

Hon Mere Williams stated that the Key personalities driving the project include Sen. George Akume, CON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Grand Patron; Maj. Gen. Jubril Abdulmalik, Rtd, Secretary CDCFIB and Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Alh. Mahmud Ahmed Mubi, National Patron; and Hon. Salihu Dauda, Director General.

On the Tinubu administration’s performance, Hon. Williams highlights delivery in 3 critical areas: Economic Reforms through subsidy removal and FX unification which are increasing revenue to states and LGAs; Security through renewed investment and improved coordination; and Infrastructure & Student Welfare including roads, the Student Loan Scheme, CNG buses, and support for small businesses. He states that hope is being renewed because action is replacing rhetoric.

For the South-South region, he says Renewed Hope means inclusion, infrastructure, and industrialization. The focus will be on the East-West Road, key bridges, modular refineries, and youth empowerment through skills. He emphasizes that President Tinubu is committed to dialogue and development in the South-South, not just extraction.

To citizens demanding results, his message is to “judge President Tinubu by results, and hold him accountable.” He acknowledges years of frustration but points to the repositioning of NDDC, expansion of the Amnesty Programme, and ongoing roads and power projects.

He stressed that the Renewed Hope Project is not a seasonal, election-year structure but a movement. The organization is building structures across the 6 South-South states, 123 LGAs, and all wards. It tracks projects and engages youths, women, stakeholders, and traditional rulers. The focus is on governance, not just politics.

As Zonal Coordinator, my mandate is to coordinate, mobilize, and communicate the Renewed Hope Agenda across the region. Success, to him, means functional structures in every ward, skilled and employed youths, economically empowered women, and a South-South that votes for President Tinubu because it has seen results. “If people say ‘we saw Renewed Hope in our communities,’ then I have succeeded.” Hon Williams stated.

His leadership approach is anchored on inclusion, listening, and results. He said he is coming with a South-South agenda, not a state agenda, and that his door is open to all. “ We will disagree, but we will not be divided. Our unity is our strength.”

So far, the South-South Zonal Executive is set for inauguration and state/LGA structures is been set up. Engagements have started with students, market women, youth, and religious leaders. The early result he sees is acceptance, with more people asking questions and wanting to be part of the movement.

He distinguishes his leadership by sincerity and structure. Unlike previous top-down, Abuja-centered efforts, this is bottom-up. Every LGA coordinator will be known in his community, and mobilisation will be tied to delivery. The project will be data-driven and accountable.

Looking to 2027, Hon. Williams hopes to present a South-South that is not just voting, but actively participating in and benefiting from Renewed Hope. His vision is a region with better roads, more jobs, less youth restiveness, and stronger faith in Nigeria. “A region that says: ‘We are part of this Renewed Hope and we want it to continue.”

He urged Nigerians to give the process time. Noting his experience as a former legislator, he said the first term of Mr President is for laying foundations and a second term is needed to complete more projects. He called for support to consolidate the gains,” Hon Mere stated.
