The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Wale Oke, has commended Saint Remmy Foundation for its effort in providing free health services to Nigerians.
Speaking to journalists, while flagging off a two-day free health screening exercise, in conjunction with Indian medical team from Fortis Memorial Hospital, Oke said he was thrilled by the effort of Saint Remmy Foundation in seeing that Nigerians and the less privileged were catered for.
He said LASUTH had been trying to provide health services to Nigerians and had deemed it fit to invite Indian doctors to collaborate with it, with the assistance of Remmy Foundation.
The Coordinator, Saint Remmy Foundation, Mr. Remmy Obet, explained that the essence of the free health service programme was to know the health status of Nigerians, who are sick but have no money for diagnosis.
Said he: “After we have known the health status of a patient, we take the case up as in helping and providing financial assistance. We are partnering LASUTH because of the quality health facilities there.
“As a foundation, we take up the cost and if there are cases, like cancer, that is beyond LASUTH, we refer it to Fortis Hospital in India, work with them to find out the needs of the patient.”
Fortis Hospital medical doctor, Varun Verma, noted that there were lots of patients, including children born with health diseases, while giving assurance that Fortis Hospital would help in areas that are lacking at LASUTH, to provide quality health care, in surgery, cancer counseling, and other major ailments.
No fewer than 200 patients benefitted from the free health exercise.
