The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFMI) has donated medical supplies and nutrition items worth millions of naira to the Kebbi State Government to support vulnerable residents across the state.
The North West zonal coordinator of NCFRMI, Armiya’u Shuaibu confirmed this in a statement in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the statement, the items were presented to the state Ministry of Health.
The donation, he said, was said to be part of a federal intervention coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in partnership with NCFRMI.
Shuaibu said the support was a follow-up to the earlier flag-off for the distribution of relief materials to vulnerable persons in selected states, including Kebbi.
“This presentation is in fulfilment of our mandate to provide assistance to vulnerable populations. Today, we are handing over essential drugs, Tom Brown and ready-to-use therapeutic food to the Kebbi State Government through the Ministry of Health for onward distribution,” he said.
The statement disclosed that the consignment includes pharmaceutical products, 3,600 bags of 4kg tom brown and 7,413 sachets of RUTF.
He explained that the distribution plan was clearly defined to ensure targeted delivery. He stated that the drugs would be sent only to the health facilities in Kebbi North and Kebbi South.
“The drugs are designated for the health facilities in Kebbi North and Kebbi South only,” he said. “However, the Tom Brown and RUTF are to be distributed across all the three senatorial zones in the state.”
The medical supplies handed over included Paracetamol syrup, Lonart tablets and suspension, Emvite C, Zolat, Ciprofloxacin, Ampiclox, Ceftriaxone injection, Gentamicin injection, Artesunate injection, IV fluids, bandages, syringes, mosquito nets and multivitamins.
The nutrition component, according to the statement, was aimed at tackling malnutrition among children and food-insecure households.
While receiving the items on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Health, Samaila Yakubu Augie, commended the NCFRMI and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for the intervention.
“We appreciate the National Commission and the Federal Ministry for this timely support,” Augie said. “These drugs and nutrition items will strengthen our health facilities and provide relief to vulnerable families, especially in rural areas.”
The Commissioner assured that the Ministry would ensure transparent distribution in line with the Commission’s guidelines.
“We will ensure that the drugs reach the specified health facilities in Kebbi North and Kebbi South, while the Tom Brown and RUTF are shared across all the three senatorial zones,” he said.
NCFRMI noted that the intervention aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce poverty, improve healthcare delivery and address malnutrition among vulnerable groups nationwide.
