As cash crunch persists in Nigeria, a crack team of men of the Nigeria Police from the Igboeze South Division of Enugu State has intercepted currency counterfeiters.

Saturday Sun exclusively gathered that some members of the syndicate were nabbed in one of the rural communities of the local government with wads of fake N1, 000 denomination of the redesigned notes on Wednesday.

It was further gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Igboeze South, identified as SP Kelechi, working on credible intelligence with his men busted the suspected criminal gang.

Though the amount of fake notes found on the counterfeiters could not be ascertained, a police source said it was huge, adding that the syndicate had perfected how to inject the money into the system.

The source disclosed that the suspects made confessional statements before they were transferred to the state command headquarters, Enugu, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, on Thursday.

It was not clear whether the suspects would be charged to court early next week while investigation continues. The command was yet to speak on the issue at press time.
