Red House wins Great Showers School maiden Inter-House Sports

Red House emerged overall winners of the maiden Inter-House Sports competition at Great Showers School, clinching 14 gold, seven silver, and five bronze medals in a thrilling display of athletic excellence.

Green House finished second with eight gold, nine silver, and six bronze medals, while Yellow House secured third place after recording seven gold, seven silver, and six bronze medals. Blue House settled for fourth position with five gold, eight silver, and 10 bronze medals.

The colourful event marked the official debut of the school’s Inter-House Sports Day, drawing participation from pupils, staff, parents, and key stakeholders in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.

Earlier, while declaring the event open, the School Administrator, Mrs. Divine Ikegwuonu welcomed dignitaries including members of the Board of Directors, pastors, the PTA chairman, committee chairpersons, coaches, house captains, and pupils. The administrator described the occasion as a reflection of the school’s commitment to holistic education.

In his remarks, the Head Teacher, Ngozi Emelike emphasized the core values of the competition, urging participants to embrace fair play, determination, and mutual respect.

“This day is about friendly rivalry, teamwork, determination, and fun. Compete with courage, respect your opponents, and accept both victory and defeat with dignity,” he said.

He commended the efforts of coaches and teachers for their dedication in preparing the students, noting that their contributions were instrumental to the success of the event. Appreciation was also extended to parents, sponsors, and supporters for their encouragement.

Participants were advised to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, respect officials’ decisions, and maintain cleanliness throughout the competition.

The Headteacher further highlighted that beyond winning medals, the event was designed to instill resilience, teamwork, and a strong sense of school spirit among pupils.

Special recognition was given to the PTA Chairman, Mr. Umah, and the Chairperson of the Inter-House Sports Committee, Mrs. Onyeagwara, alongside other members of the organizing committee, sports officials, sponsors, and staff for their roles in making the event a success.

The 2026 Inter-House Sports Day was officially declared open to applause, with participants encouraged to compete fairly and uphold the true spirit of sports.
