A group under the aegis of Concerned LP Members has called for the prosecution of the embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party Mr Julius Abure and save the party from collapse, shame and further embarrassment.
The group spoke at a press conference in Benin City, Edo State noted with concern various allegations ranging from forgery, perjury extortion and bribery leveled against the National chairman that has plunged the party into crisis from the state to the national levels.
They also wondered why in the face of these humongous allegations against the National Chairman, the leader and presidential candidate, Peter Obi has kept quiet, a situation that gives credence to cover up the sins of Abure by Obi.
It posited that rather than throw the party into more confusion with his governorship election coming in some states Abure should come out clear himself of “red flag” on his neck for the interest and growth of the LP.
They called on the police not to sweep the matter under the carpet as the public are keeping eyes on how the matter adding they may be force to embark on mass protest against attempt to cover up the allegations.
In a statement read by the group by the convener Ambassador Abel Ideho,
it noted with concern that the goodwill the party had enjoyed in the run-up to the 2023 general elections have been eroded with the issues of forgery and others elevated against Abure.
“We feel that what Abure should be interested in right now is how purge himself of this allegations that have practically fragmented the party into various factions and not the talk of his interest in the Edo State governor race.
“If a national chairman could have as much as be showing interest in a governorship race when he has been accused of forging a withdrawal letter from political aspirants of his member, how can he be trusted with other responsibilities?
“According to a recent publication
in some national dailies, the national chairman has further been alleged of bribing his way through
from been prosecuted on the forgery allegation.
Ideho said LP would not only be further torn apart in Edo and other state but will lose the governorship election if Abure is not prosecuted. We calling on all well meaning and supporters of Labour Party to speak out and save our party.
According to Ideho, “LP is in a prime position to emerge victorious in the Edo guber election, but that could only be possible of they go into the election united and with Abure in the race, your guest is as good as mine.”
