The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon Chinedu Ogah has urged the Corps Marshall and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, to enlist real Ebonyi people in the ongoing recruitment exercise by the corps.
Ogah, who alleged that the people enlisted in the current recruitment exercise by the corps, are not real Ebonyi indigenes, urged Shehu to immediately enlist the real indigenes of the state into the corps, describing it as unacceptable, shortchanging of the state in the exercise and disobedience to federal character rules.
He said the federal character rules stipulates that every state must be equitably and genuinely represented in every recruitment exercise in federal agencies, ministries, departments, and parastatals which he said the corps didn’t apply in the recruitment exercise.
He alleged that the names in the list released by the FRSC as successful candidates for Ebonyi State are not indigenes of the state, but people who forged identification certificates to gain employment in the corps as Ebonyi indigenes, thereby shortchanging the state in the recruitment quota.
“The Corps Marshal of FRSC should review the list for Ebonyi quota in the ongoing refurbishment process of the corps because the names in the Ebonyi list are not Ebonyi people.
“If the corps argue this, there should be a physical parade of those candidates they enlisted as Ebonyi people, let us come and show them that those candidates are carrying fake identification certificates.
“The corps should immediately enlist real Ebonyi people into the ongoing refurbishment exercise because Ebonyi quota can’t be given to those that are not indigenes of the state.
“They should obey the federal character rules which stipulate that every employment must be done equitably and genuinely.
“They should not tag people they enlisted as Ebonyi people because they are not our people. Over 80% of those people they enlisted for Ebonyi State are not indigenes of the state “, Ogah, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institution, said.
