From: Jeff Amechi Agbodo, Onitsha
The Campaign for Democracy (CD), on Wednesday, condemned and questioned the result of recruitment exercise organised by the Department of State Services (DSS) where it allegedly allocated 51 personnel to Katsina state, the highest in the country.
The group wondered why out of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Katsina State got highest personnel while the densely populated states like Lagos, Imo, Rivers and Anambra got lesser slots combined than Katsina.
National Publicity Secretary of Campaign for Democracy (CD), Comrade Dede Uzor A. Uzor, in a statement, in Anambra State, demanded for the total overhaul of the DSS and called on the President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the requirement exercise.
Uzor also commended the Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC) Chief Mike Okiro, for successful completion the first batch of recruitment of 10,000 Police officers in the federation in line with Federal Character Commission’s standard and maintaining of transparent leadership.
The CD publicity secretary, however, called on President Buhari to make the recruitment exercise a routine especially recruiting 50,000 personnel’s in line with United Nations standard of one police officer per 400 citizens ‘now Nigeria is facing security challenges’.
The group also commended the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9 Umuahia, Mr. Hosea Karma, for his professionalism in reducing crime in the South-East when the zone was under siege by some notorious criminals like Osisi Ka Nkwu, Honsh Man, Chelsea, Nonso Mgbe and ‘Vampire’ etc.
He also commended Anambra State police commissioner, Mr. Sam Okaula, his counterpart in Imo state Mr. Chris Ezike, Mr. Sunday Okpe of SARS Awkuzu, DPO of Fegge Mr. Rabiu Musa and New DPO of Ogidi Mr. Mark Ijarafu for reducing crime to its lowest ebb.
